Eminem Celebrates Surprise Oscars Performance With Elton John Reunion

Eminem surprised the 92nd annual Academy Awards with a surprise performance of his Oscar-winning hit, "Lose Yourself," on Sunday night (February 9) and his appearance at the ceremony included a run-in with an old friend.

After the number, the Real Slim Shady, 47, took to social media to share a sweet reunion photo with Sir Elton John, 72, who scored his own victory during the evening by snagging the Best Original Song win for he and and long-time collaborate Bernie Taupin's "(I'm Gonna) Love Me Again" from Rocketman. "I got to see my Uncle Elton tonight at the Oscars," Em captioned the shot, adding, "Congrats on your win too, sir!" In case you don't remember, John and Mathers teamed up for an iconic performance of "Stan" at the 2001 Grammy Awards.

He also took a jab at himself for not appearing at the 2003 Oscar ceremony to accept his own award, which was presented by Barbara Streisand. "Look, if you had another shot, another opportunity... Thanks for having me @theacademy. Sorry it took me 18 years to get here," he wrote alongside a clip of his throwback victory, which was accepted by Jeff Bass, one of the track's co-producers. He never took to the ceremony in the early 2000s because he didn't think he had a chance at winning.

While many were taken back by the surprise performance, Em's number makes total sense as it arrived shortly before a Best Original Song montage and, well, "Lose Yourself" was the first hip-hop song to receive the Oscar award. Also, the performance took some time out of the ceremony that was led by no hosts.
