Vice President Kamala Harris delivered a speech conceding to the election at Howard University, her alma mater.

On Wednesday (November 6), Harris appeared at Howard University in Washington D.C. after former President Donald Trump was projected to win the 2024 election.

Harris employed a message of unity and encouraged Americans to keep fighting for democracy in her first remarks since losing the presidential election.

"My heart is full today," Harris began her speech. "Full of gratitude, full of love, and full of resolve."

Though the outcome of the election didn't fall in her favor, Harris said, "The light of America's promise will always burn bright as long as we never give up and as long as we keep fighting."

Harris noted that she was "proud" of the campaign she ran. The vice president had about 107 days to make her bid for the White House after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race.

During her speech, the Democratic nominee said she had spoken with Trump and congratulated him on winning the presidency.

"We must accept the results of this election," Harris said, adding "We will engage in a peaceful transfer of power."

In one of her most pointed remarks, Harris again emphasized that she wasn't giving up on the country despite losing the election.

"While I conceded this election, i do not concede the fight that fueled this campaign," the vice president stated.

On Tuesday, Harris also acknowledged that her supporters may be feeling sad or disappointed by the outcome by the election.

"Do not despair," Harris said. "This isn't a time to throw up our hands, it's time to roll up our sleeves."

Harris concluded her speech with an old adage: "Only when it is dark enough can you see the stars."

"I know many people feel like we are entering a dark time, but for the benefit of us all, I hope that is not the case. But here's the thing: America, if it is, let us fill the sky with the light of a brilliant, brilliant billion of stars, the light of optimism, of faith, of truth and service."
