Mariah Carey still doesn't care about Eminem over 20 years after their infamous beef began.

The veteran singer played "Plead The Fifth" during her time on "Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen" on Wednesday night, October 1. At one point during the segment, Cohen asked Carey about a rumor that her issues with Slim Shady began after he asked her to play the role of his mother in the 2002 film 8 Mile.

“From what I heard, there is truth to that, but I don’t think that he actually… well, who knows who approached who,” Carey replied.

"Did that ignite the beef?” Cohen asked.

“No. I mean, maybe,” Carey responded. “It depends what he’s thinking. I really don’t care. Like, whatever he’s said, then I’m that, fine. Not really. But that’s a rap lyric.”

The question was inspired by an anecdote producer Damion “Damizza” Young shared during an interview earlier this year. He recalled how Eminem, who's just four years younger than Carey, wanted the "Type Dangerous" singer to play his mom in the film based on his life. Carey was reportedly offended by the request and turned down the role, which ultimately went to Kim Basinger. Young also claimed that Eminem and Mariah's meeting about the role sparked their long-rumored romantic fling.

Eminem claimed to have dated Mariah Carey, and referenced their relationship on a couple of songs in the past like "Superman" and "The Warning." Carey admitted to hanging out with Em, but denied ever dating him. She addressed the rumor and portrayed him in the music video for her hit "Obsessed." Eminem returned the favor by calling her a "nut job" in Fat Joe's "Lord Above" in 2019.
