Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes' grandfather, Randy, was reportedly moved to hospice care days before the AFC Championship Game, his mother, Randi, revealed on her Instagram story Friday (January 24).

"My dad is in hospice & I'm lost for words," Randi wrote, along with a photo of herself and her father, the Bible passage 'Colossians 3:20,' and three praying hands emojis.

Randi had previously shared a post on her Instagram account asking for prayers regarding her father's health status.

"Prayer warriors please pray for my daddy. He is in the hospital and is not well...his name is Randy," Randi wrote at the time.

The Chiefs are set to appear in their seventh consecutive AFC Championship Game when they host the Buffalo Bills on Sunday (January 26), entering as back-to-back defending Super Bowl champions and having won three of the last five. Mahomes, widely regarded as the best quarterback in football, threw for 177 yards and one touchdown on 16 of 25 passing during Kansas City's AFC Divisional Round win against the Houston Texans last Saturday (January 18).

The former Texas Tech standout threw for 3,928 yards, 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions on 392 of 581 passing, while leading the Chiefs to a 15-1 record in 16 regular season starts.
