It seems co-host Regina King has skipped out on the 2022 Met Gala's red carpet event. The Oscar-winning actress was missing from the public affair at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Tuesday evening (May 2). Neither King nor her representatives have commented on her absence as of now.
The prestigious event comes months after the tragic death of King's only son, Ian Alexander Jr., earlier this year.
"Our family is devastated at the deepest level by the loss of Ian," King said in a statement to People at the time. "He is such a bright light who cared so deeply about the happiness of others. Our family asks for respectful consideration during this private time. Thank you."
While the One Night In Miami... director has been understandably mum on her son's passing, she's also working on a film based on the life of Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman elected to U.S. Congress and one of the first Black women to run for the U.S presidency. King is set to star as the trailblazing icon and serve as a producer.
Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, and Lin-Manuel Miranda will join her as hosts for this year's Met Gala. Designer Tom Ford, Instagram's Adam Mosseri, and Vogue's Anna Wintour are honorary co-chairs. Plenty of celebrities, socialites, and other high-profile figures showed off their glamorous outfits for this year's theme: "In America: An Anthology of Fashion."
