G-Eazy has been mourning the loss of his mother, Suzanne Olmsted, for the past five months since she passed away. While he was coping with his mom's passing, the Oakland, Calif. rapper decided to dedicate a new song to his "angel."
On Friday, April 15, the "No Limit" rapper delivered a song that's near and dear to his heart. He dropped "Angel" on his late mother's birthday. In "Angel," G-Eazy slows it down and sings about his grieving process over a somber guitar riff. Before he released the record, Gerald opened up about what he's been going through since losing his "best friend" in an Instagram post.
"It’s important to get away sometimes," G-Eazy wrote in his caption. "Tuck off and take time to reset, recharge and recalibrate just to clear your head and balance everything out. Been thinking about my mom a lot lately. Grieving can be a complicated process, it comes in waves. Dropping a song tomorrow on her birthday that I wrote about that process."
G-Eazy revealed the news about his mother last November. Though he did not specify the cause of death, but he did say that it was a letter she wrote to him that encouraged the rapper to seek treatment at a rehab center for his drug and alcohol addictions.
"I didn't realize the extent of just how worried you were about me until you sent me the hardest letter I've ever had to read… Going to treatment for alcohol and drugs was my decision but your letter was what ultimately persuaded me," G-Eazy wrote in his post.
Along with the song, the rapper also dropped an emotional video featuring numerous family photos and touching videos of the mother and son together. Grab some tissues and press play up top.
