Sabrina Carpenter Seemingly Responds To Olivia Rodrigo Drama On New Song

Fans think Sabrina Carpenter’s new song is a response to Olivia Rodrigo’s viral hit single.

Rodrigo broke the internet — and tons of streaming records — earlier this month with the release of her debut record "Drivers License," which has become really popular among other Gen-Zers. Rodrigo’s song appears to address the 17-year-old’s rumored ex-boyfriend, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series co-star, Joshua Bassett, 20, as well as Carpenter.

The messiest part of it all: it’s been rumored that Bassett moved on with Carpenter after breaking off his alleged romance with Rodrigo in 2020. Hence, a war of words was started.

Fans took Rodrigo’s “Drivers License” to be about her past relationship with Bassett, while subtly addressing an unnamed ex and a “blonde girl” many followers suspected is Carpenter. At one point during the song, Rodrigo sings, "And you're probably with that blonde girl / Who always made me doubt / She's so much older than me / She's everything I'm insecure about."

Well, as of Friday (January 22), it appears the 21-year-old has responded to Rodrigo with a record of her own called “Skin,” in which she tells her side of the rumored love triangle.

“Maybe we could have been friends/ If I met you in another life/ Maybe then we could pretend/ There’s no gravity in the words we write/ Maybe you didn’t mean it/ Maybe ‘blonde’ was the only rhyme,” Carpenter sings, an indirect reference to Rodrigo’s ‘blonde girl’ lyric.

Elsewhere, the Work It actress also seems to flaunt her closeness with Bassett, bragging, “You can try to get under my skin/ While he’s all on my skin.”

Carpenter ends the track with another clever reference, singing, “I just hope that one day/ We can both caught about it … Don’t drive yourself insane/ It won’t always be this way.”

As expected, fans had A LOT to say about "Skin" — see the best reactions below:
